Filipinos out

The president seems to be promoting overseas job for the Filipinos. Instead of creating job opportunities inside the country the president wants the Filipinos out. The pope himself even called the attention of the government to generate jobs here and not to encourage works abroad.

The main concern is the effect of overseas working on the family. For most OFWs leaving the country to work was their last resort to sustain the families. They wouldn’t want to leave the country if there are opportunities here. A father or a mother going abroad to work has a big impact on the family.

Many studies have been conducted the past years saying it has negative effects on the family. If the government’s sole purpose is the welfare of the people then the government should be creating good job opportunities here and not abroad.

I can be the start

I remember the prayer for the nation recited by lasallians every after Mass. It says, “Even if I’m not the light I can be the spark... Let us start the change we want to see; the change that begins in me.”

We all want change for our nation. Most of the times, if not always, we fail to see that we as individuals can do something. The change that we want to see can only start from ourselves and nowhere else. We start with individual discipline. For example the issue of trash in the metro, complaining will not do any help. A better thing to do is to stop adding up to the garbage and put you trash on the right place. Don’t just throw your candy wrapper anywhere. Keep it first till you find a trashcan.

By that simple act you start the change you want to see- you become the spark. One fulfils the duty of a citizen by action. A citizen who is not doing anything for change is like a stone wasted into the fields without becoming part of any edifice. A great nation is built of great citizens.

The change begins in each one of us.
